In 1895, it washere that his grandfather, Thomas McGregor started his personal line of credit andgiven its name as, McGregor Institute. The business providesassistance to Great Lakes sailors and other fleeting labour. TheInstitute provided shelter, warmth and food to approximately 100 men all year. When Thomas McGregor passed away, his son Murray McGregor(Douglass father) continued to manage the business.
